Rs 1 lakh assistance provided to pellet victim Hiba

SHOPIAN, NOVEMBER 30: It does not happen every day that we as news people do get to print good things about polititians or bureaucrats, especially if it comes to Kashmir. This time it was Dr. Owais, Deputy commissioner Shopian, who provided us with a moment of tranquility in an otherwise chaotic security scenario prevalent in the the state.

On 25th of November, a scuffle between some local youth and government security forces took an ugly turn resulting in tear gass and pellet gun firing from the side of the goveenment forces .
During this very scuffle incident, an ill natured tear gas shell fired by the government forces landed inside the house of one Mr. Nisar Ahmed, R/ O Kapran area of Shopian.

At the time of the incident, Hiba, an 18 month old baby girl was also inside the house along with her mother, who tried to take the baby out of there so as to ease the discomfort and pain thus caused by the tear gas shell.

And this is precisely when a randomly aimed pellet, fired by the security forces hit the 18 months old Hiba in her eye, causing substantial damage .

Dr. Owais, DC Shopian, responding immidiately to the SOS calls of the parents , rushed to the spot and after taking stock of the situation, assured the victim’s family of every possible help from the side of the local adminstration.

Mr. Sadiq Mohd., a local medical practioneer, told PAIGAAM that , ” assurances and promises are the norm, a safe bet to diffuse tention, whenever something goes wrong in the Valley, however, keeping promises is definitely not a norm or a practice “.

He further added that, ” we were all surprised to see Dr. Owais actually turn up himself with an ammount of Rs. One lac for the treatment of Hiba as promised by him the other day.”

On talking to PAIGAAM , Dr. Owais said that , “well , this is a part of the job I am here to perform and nothing special about it. Infact releasing and distributing money is the easiest of all the tasks one has to perform in Kashmir.”

On being asked what he found tough about his Job, Dr. Owais responded by saying, ” it’s looking into the only eye (one eye) of an 18 months old Hiba and attempting to explain to her that everything is going to be fine .”
