KARGIL DECEMBER 01: The 15 Days Play production Oriented Theatre Workshop organized by Jammu and Kashmir Academy of Art, Culture and Languages, Kargil concluded at Auditorium Hall Kargil here today.
The participating artists staged two plays in Purgi language entitled Khonis Chi Samed and Passport produced during the workshop.
The plays won thundering applauses by the audiences comprising of a jam packed hall of theatre enthusiasts including representatives of the LAHDC, Kargil, senior citizens, district officers and a large number of general public.
Executive Councillor for Works and Information Nassir Hussain Munshi was the chief guest while as Executive Councillor for Tourism and Zanskar Affairs Er Punchoq Tashi was the guest of honour.
Speaking on the occasion Nassir Hussain Munshi congratulated the Academy for having organized yet another successful play production oriented theater workshop. The EC expressed optimism that the Academy would further continue with its endeavors towards the promotion of theatre arts among the budding artists in Kargil District so that they are able to explore and polish their talent.
Nassir recalled his long time association with theater as a child artist with Nawbahar Dramatic Club Kargil during the decade of the 70s when amateur theater in Kargil was at its peak. The EC said that it is encouraging to see that the enthusiasm of the Kargilites towards theater has not declined even in the present age of internet, Television and Cable TV, which is a healthy sign. He also highlighted the need to make use of theater as a potential agent and powerful medium to highlight social evils.
Er Punchoq Tashi in his address underlined the need of theatre as a medium towards cultural preservation and hailed the script and the scenes of the two plays staged that consisted of several elements of the glorious past of the Kargil region which has rich multiethnic ethos of communal harmony, unit, tolerance and peaceful coexistence.
Earlier while welcoming the dignitaries, guests, theatre enthusiasts and the participating artists, Muhammad Ali Tak Special Officer for Cultural Activities (SOCA) Kargil highlighted the initiatives of the Academy towards theatre promotion and revival in Kargil.
Tak said that the 15 day play production oriented theatrical event has been held as a part of the series of continued efforts conducted by the Academy with the objective to encourage theatre skills among the amateur young artists like mind development, expression skills, concentration, yoga, imagination, spontaneity, dialogue delivery, script writing, sounds and lighting besides acting skills.
The SOCA stated that yet another objective of the workshop is to explore and highlight the rich cultural and traditional values which are taking a backseat due to the overpowering impact of the outward influences.
Meanwhile the participating artists also shared their workshop experiences on the occasion. They appreciated the Academy for having given them such professional training opportunities and urged to continue such programmes in future as well.
Later the dignitaries felicitated Professional Theater Expert Kacho Ahmad Khan as well as Amateur Theater Experts Bashir Ahmad Wafa, Gulzar Ahmad Mir and Tsewang Rigzin for their noteworthy contribution towards promotion of theater in Kargil. Certificates of participation were also distributed among the participating artists on the occasion.
The proceedings of the programme were conducted by poet and writer Nasiruddin Khafee while as Cultural Expert Muhammad Abbass Skith Alipa delivered the vote of thanks at the end.
Pertinently, the workshop was conducted under the guidance of Kacho Ahmad Khan (1st National School of Drama Graduate from Kargil). Around 40 amateur young male and female aspirants from different parts of Kargil District attended the workshop.
