Defence Minister Nirmala Sitharaman today met Jammu and Kashmir Governor Satya Pal Malik in Srinagar and discussed the prevailing security situation in the state.
She was accompanied by Army Chief General Bipin Rawat.
The visit is important in view of increasing attempts of infiltration by terrorists from across the border and ongoing anti-militant operations in the valley.
The meeting also discussed the upcoming urban local bodies and Panchayat elections, and also improving road connectivity, particularly in the Ladakh region.
Earlier, Mrs Sitharaman accompanied by General Rawat visited Balbir Post, a forward post in northern Kashmir and interacted with the troops deployed there. She is the first defence minister to visit Balbir post.
