Wildlife Week 2018: Wildlife Protection Deptt organizes awareness progs

BARAMULLA, OCTOBER 02- As the part of a series of celebratory events planned to commemorate Wildlife Week 2018, Department of Wildlife Protection in collaboration with Wildlife Trust of India (WTI) organised a day-long awareness event for schoolchildren here today.

An inter-school quiz competition was held at Jawahar Navodaya Vidyalaya (JNV) at Shahkote to deliberate upon the importance of wildlife conservation with the underlying goal of inculcating and encouraging much-needed natural heritage awareness among members of the next generation and making them stakeholders in wildlife conservation.

Principal (JNV), AK Limal was the chief Guest on the occasion. The inagural event was attended by Mohammad Sadiq Mir (Wildlife Warden Sopore), Mushtaq Ahmad Lone (Forester Limber wildlife sanctuary), G. Baba (Forester Lachipora (WLS), Abdul Quyoom Khan (Forester Naganari). Sameer Khazir and Tahir Gazanfar of Wildlife Trust of India.

To propagate wildlife Knowledge among the school children, such events are being conducted in Lachipora (WLS) Naganari (CR), Gulmarg (WLS) and Baramulla during the Week.

“The ongoing awareness drive is aimed to inculcate wildlife knowledge among schoolchildren in the five targeted areas of Kazinag National Park, sensitising them towards their responsibilities vis-à-vis the conservation of the nation’s rich biodiversity and ecology, and helping them appreciate the beauty and importance of nature,” a statement of the Wildlife Department said.

Speaking on the occasion, Wildlife warden North Kashmir said: ” It is high time that we start to create public ownership of our natural assets and take it as shared good for our posterity that is how we can preserve our precious natural wealth.”
