JAMMU, DECEMBER 03- Department of Social Welfare in collaboration with ‘Lakshya the aim’ NGO today celebrated International Day of People with disability here at Government Residential School for Blinds Roop Nagar.
Deputy Commissioner, Ramesh Kumar was the chief guest, Director Social Welfare Dr. Bharat Bhushan was the guest of honour and Deputy Director Social Welfare Department Supriya Kohli was the special guest.
A series of performances including songs, debate, skit and dances were performed by the Specially abled students of various institutions on the occasion.
The Deputy Commissioner, in his address, appreciated the efforts of District Social Welfare Department for organizing such programme and celebrating the International Day of Persons with Disabilities.
He encouraged the participants for their achievement in various fields. He also educated the gathering about various central and state sponsored social welfare schemes for the welfare of the specially abled people. He appealed the gathering and the cross sections of the society to come forward to lend their hand in bringing about a progressive change in the lives of specially abled persons. He said that the department of social welfare is committed to provide equal opportunities, protection of their rights and full empowerment of persons with disabilities.
Director Social Welfare explained the importance of the day being designated by the UN to be celebrated as International Day of Persons with Disabilities. He also assured that the specially abled people of the commitment of the department for their welfare.
Gifts and mementos were also presented to the specially abled students.
