Shopian, Pulwama, Kulgam and Anantnag districts of South Kashmir remained completely shut down for a second day in a row on Tuesday after two militants and four civilians were killed in an encounter on Sunday. Several youth pelted stones at security personnel near Shopian’s mini-secretariat while clashes were also reported from Anantnag. Around 20 people were injured when security forces forces lobbed teargas shells to stop the protests on Tuesday.

Shops and business establishments stayed shut across South Kashmir even though there was no call for a strike. A “Shopian chalo” call has been given for Wednesday by the Joint Resistance Leadership.
