Prof. A.K. Gupta takes charge as President, Academy of Hospital Administration, NOIDA

Prof. A.K. Gupta, Medical Superintendent cum Head, Deptt. of Hospital Administration, PGIMER Chandigarh took charge as the President, Academy of Hospital Administration (AHA), Noida for the term 2018-20.

A very senior and founder member of Academy of Hospital Administration, Prof. Gupta was elected unanimously during the meeting of the executive body held in the Academy premises today. As President, Prof. Gupta will head the Academy for two years.

Elaborating on the priorities for the term 2018-20, Prof. Gupta stated, “Our initiatives for the term would primarily focus towards developing norms and standards for accreditation of the health care organizations and adopt means of evaluation of such institutions, so as to improve the quality of health care in the community, provide opportunities for training and research in all aspects of Health Care Delivery System along with promoting awareness of health care among all sections of the Indian people.”

Popularly known as ‘Teacher of Teachers’, Prof. Gupta started his academic career as faculty at AIIMS, New Delhi in 1988 and later joined PGIMER, Chandigarh as Medical Superintendent and Head, Department of Hospital Administration in January, 1996 where he is working since then. He is trained in U.K. and was awarded Commonwealth Medical Fellowship for one year in 1991-92, availed at University of Liverpool, U.K. He has been short term Consultant to World Health Organization (SEARO), New Delhi and an International Consultant to World Health Organization, Nepal.

Prof. Gupta has been involved as Expert Member in various high level Committees of Government of India viz. permanent Special Invitee in Project Management Committee under the Pardhan Mantri Swasthya Suraksha Yojana of Govt. of India (PMSSY); Member from 2005-2010, Technical Evaluation Committee under PMSSY, Govt. of India etc.

Prof. Gupta has the highest scientific contribution in the discipline of hospital administration with many scientific papers in national and international journals of high impact factor and citation index, and paper presentations in India and abroad.

Prof. Gupta was conferred with Lifetime Achievement Award by the Indus Foundation at the Indo Global Health Care Summit in July, 2015. He has received State Award for meritorious public service (A Gold Medal, Citation and Rs.51000/- been donated to the poor patient fund of the ‘Institute’) awarded by the Government of Jammu and Kashmir on Republic Day, 2014. The Govt. of UT, Chandigarh on the eve of Republic Day on 26th January, 2000 and 2006 had awarded him for his devotion to duty and rendering outstanding services.

Initially functioning from the Deptt of Hospital Administration, AIIMS, New Delhi, the Academy of Hospital Administration (AHA) was established on 16th February 1987 under the Society Registration Act 1860 and is now located at AHA House [Institute of Healthcare Management, Training and Research Campus] Sector-62, Institutional Area, Noida.
