ANANTNAG, AUGUST 04: On the eve of National Bone and Joint Day, Department of Orthopedics and Spine Surgery, Mirza Mohammad Afzal Baig Memorial Hospital Anantnag (MMABMH), in collaboration with Boys Degree College Anantnag, organised one day awareness programme on “Road Safety” here today in the auditorium of the Boys Degree College Anantnag.
On the occasion, speakers from, Mirza Mohammad Afzal Baig Memorial Hospital Anantnag, GDC Boys Anantnag and Civil Society Anantnag, stressed upon the need to create awareness among people regarding the benefits of safe driving and repercussions of harsh driving.
Speaking on the occasion, ADDC Anantnag, Riyaz Ahmad Sofi said that we need to ponder upon the basic reasons behind the road accidents so that a sustainable mechanism is devised to ensure road safety. He added that administration and public should work shoulder to shoulder in finding an everlasting solution to all such problems. He advised the students to know and understand their responsibilities towards the society and play their role in making it a better society. He further said that students being very energetic and vulnerable to everything, should drive with greater care and act as role models for the society. He also said that a collective effort by all the stakeholders can increase the graph of road safety.
Principal, Boys Degree College Anantnag, Professor Bashir Ahmad Rather, while addressing the house said that there are scores of reasons behind the road accidents ranging from harsh driving, use of cell phone while driving and alcoholism to the encroachment of roads. He added that we cannot blame only a single entity like the driver for frequent road accidents but other factors are also equally responsible. He stressed upon framing an everlasting policy for road safety.
Medical Superintendent, Mirza Mohammad Afzal Baig Memorial Hospital Anantnag Dr Abdul Majeed Mehrab while detailing the role of the hospital said that the hospital is equipped with the latest infrastructure and technology to tackle any kind of road accident. He said that choosing the theme as “Road safety” on the National Bone and Joint Day, indicates that that bones and joints are the most vulnerable organs of the body during road accidents and need of the hour is to create a mass awareness among people regarding road safety measures.
