Police on Wednesday foiled a protest march by Rehbar-e-Taleem (ReT) on “ Teachers Day” in Srinagar, demanding release of 7th pay commission.

Over a dozen ReT teachers were taken into custody when they were marching towards the S K International Convention Centre (SKICC), where teachers day function was held by the government to honour the teachers.

Thousands of ReT teachers, including women had gathered at S K Park in Srinagar in support of their demands, including implementation of 7th pay commission.

Immediately after starting march towards SKICC, security forces and state police personnel deployed in the area immediately swung into action and resorted to lathicharge and used water canning on them. However, when they refused to disperse and continued march over a dozen teachers were taken into custody.

He said that this day is for teachers but unfortunately we are celebrating this day as black day due to non implementation of seventh pay commission in their favour. Forum leaders said that they are not demanding any thing new but they are appealing to release their genuine right which was held by the government due to unknown reasons.

They said that they are on roads from past more than four months for their genuine right but government takes deaf ears towards this issue.
