Rohtak: While the entire town is covered with posters, banners and hoardings of candidates vying for seats in the Rohtak civic body, a number of hoardings bearing slogans ‘Jat ka vote, BJP ko nahi’ and ‘Jat ekta zindabad’ were put up on the Delhi road and certain other places in the town on Friday.
These hoardings were promptly removed by the local municipal authorities, though the officials concerned remained tightlipped over the matter.
All-India Jat Aarakshan Sangharsh Samiti (AIJASS) general secretary Ashok Balhara denied having put up the hoardings. On the other hand, in a statement issued here on Friday, Dharampal Hooda, a former head of the Hooda khap, maintained that some anti-social elements had put up these hoardings to defame the Jat community.
Rohtak Municipal Commissioner RS Verma did not pick up his phone, while District Town Planner KK Varshney also passed the buck.
The Rohtak police have registered a case against unknown person(s) for putting up the hoardings under the Representation of the People Act and launched a hunt to nab them.
Taking cognisance of the matter, Rohtak SP Jashandeep Singh Randhawa has directed DSP Prithvi Singh to probe the matter.
The SP said the hoardings were put up during the night and the CCTV footage is being scanned to identify and arrest the culprits.
