Lucknow, November 9: At least 18 people have died in fatal road accidents across the state, in two cases taking several lives from the same family.
The worst occurred under Fugana police station of Muzaffarnagar on the Meerut-Karnal road where four brothers died on the stop early on Friday morning devastating the family.
The four brothers were returning in their tractor-trolley to their village, Chatele, after selling fodder when a speeding truck hit their tracker-trolley overturning it causing the instant death of the four brothers.
The truck driver is absconding.
In another accident in Malihabad area of Lucknow, late last night a speeding truck hit a SUV killing three persons from the same family and critically injuring four others.
Police said that 75-year-old Tahemul Hussain of Bareilly was travelling to Lucknow when the truck hit their SUV killing him, his wife and granddaughter on the spot. Four other passengers in the SUV are in a crucial state and admitted to the Trauma Centre of King George Medical University.
Police have confiscated the truck while the driver managed to escape.
Early this morning, six people died in Sambhal district when a state roadways bus collided with a Bolero jeep travelling from Aligarh to Nainital carrying 19 people on board. The overloaded Bolero was trying to overtake the bus.
Another five pilgrims died in Bundekhand’s Lalitpur last evening and another 32 were injured when the pickup in which they were travelling overturned while trying to save a stray cow.
They were folk artists who were returning from Orchcha after participating in the traditional dance festival on the occasion of Diwali.
The injured have been admitted to the Jhansi Medical College hospital.
