A student at a madrasa in Kerala was expelled from school after sporting a yellow bindi on her forehead, as per a report by The Indian Express. Her father claimed in a Facebook post that his daughter Henna was thrown out of school because she sported the traditional ‘chandana pottu’, a bindi made with sandalwood paste.

He further said that it was only for a film shoot that she wore it. A Facebook post by the father Ummer Malayil went viral as over 3,000 people commented in support of him. He put up another post on Sunday night thanking everyone who commented earlier. In his post, alleging that she was expelled for the bindi, he said that his daughter was an acting genius and a singing sensation.

While Henna excelled in studies, she also had talents for an engaging extempore. She was always a first rank holder in school as well as the madrassa, he said. He further expressed disappointment saying that even though she was a topper, she was expelled for this trivial matter. “And yet, she was expelled from the madrasa from the current academic year, because she sported a bindi while acting for a movie. What to do! Lucky, they didn’t sentence her to get stoned to death,” Malayil wrote in his post.

Along with the massive support he garnered, the post also received negative reactions which dismissed the incident as Malayil’s attempt to defame Islam as a religion while many others also trolled him. Malayil calmly appealed to the critics that they should text him on messenger and try knowing the truth behind the post.
