Superstar Rajinikanth’s wife Latha Rajinikanth has been asked to face trial in a case of fraud after she failed to pay dues to the tune of Rs. 6.20 crore to advertising firm Ad Bureau. Today, the Supreme Court said the investigation against her will proceed and she will be put on trial after a chargesheet has been filed.

The top court set aside an order from the Karnataka High Court, which had cancelled legal proceedings against Latha Rajnikanth. The High Court had contended that the case was not of fraud but breach of agreement. The Supreme Court said the High Court should not have cancelled the complaint at the initial stage.

The dispute started in 2014 over a movie by Rajinikanth. The firm was given exclusive distribution rights of the movie in Tamil Nadu.

The firm later went to court, alleging that full payment has not been made. In February, the top court ordered that the balance payment be made and Latha Rajanikanth promised that the dues will be cleared.
