Srinagar, Dec 10: Train service was again suspended on Monday for security reasons in Kashmir valley, where separatists have called for a general strike to highlight the alleged human rights violation in Kashmir.

“All train running in Kashmir valley have been suspended on Monday following a fresh advisory received from police last night,” a senior railway official told media.

No train will chug on Srinagar-Badgam and Baramulla in north Kashmir on Monday, he said.

Similarly, he said no train will run on Badgam-Srinagar-Anantnag-Qazigund in south Kashmir to Banihal in Jammu region.

“We cannot help since we have to act as per advisory received from the police, ” he said, adding it is the passengers, who suffer when train service is suspended, but it is done for their safety. Train service, which is economical, safe and fast against other mode of transport, has become very popular, particularly among passengers travelling daily from north to south and Banihal.”

He said railway authority cannot ignore the advisory since the safety and security of passengers and railway staff was important. Railway suffered losses worth crores of rupees in the past after demonstrators targetted trains, damaged railway stations and tracks in the past.
