At least four people have been killed in a shooting in a Canadian city.

Police have warned people living in the Fredericton neighbourhood of New Brunswick to lock their doors and others to stay away due to the “ongoing” scene.

They say the incident is “active”, with “multiple fatalities”.

Journalists covering the incident reported hearing what sounded like four gunshots after emergency services had responded and police had sealed off the area.

Meanwhile, a local described a series of “firecracker” sounds at about 7am local time.

“It was sort of like a pop, pop, pop, pop,” Robert DiDiodato told media.
