Srinagar, July 11 : A 26-year old youth drowned when he was taking a bath in a stream in Mawer area of Handwara in Kupwara district on Wednesday evening.
According to the Local sources of the area, one Imtiyaz Ahmad Bhat son of Mohammad Mukhtar Bhat, permanent resident of Wulrama apparantly drowned in the local stream at Haderkhari, Shanoo area of Mawer while he was taking bath in an attempt to beat the scorching heat, late in the afternoon on wednesday.
As soon as the news spread, hundreds of local people started assembling at the spot where as teams of police and civil administration also rushed to the spot and immediately started an operation to retrieve the body of the deceased.
According to a police officer, the youth’s body was retrieved from the nallah late in the evening and cause of his drowning is initially being suspected to be that the youth apparently got stuck in the mud leading to his drowning and consequent death. However a complete picture will come out only once the investigation is completed.
A case under 174 CrPc has been registered to know the actual cause of the death, the officer added while talking to the media.
