Youth killed in army firing laid to rest amid shutdown in Trehgam

Thousands of people on Thursday participated in the last rites of 22-year-old Khalid Gaffar Malik who was shot dead by army last evening in Trehgam village of north Kashmir’s Kupwara district.

Reports said that thousands of people participated in the funeral prayers of Malik who was laid to rest at the local martyrs’ graveyard amid pro-freedom slogans.

Khalid Gaffar Malik was killed after he was hit by a bullet fired by the soldiers yesterday.
Soon after his burial, youth took to streets hurled stones at the police and paramilitary CRPF personnel deployed in the area to impose curbs, reports said.

They said the forces fired teargas and pellets to disperse the protesters, leaving at least three youth injured.

Meanwhile, a spontaneous shutdown is being observed in Kupwara district. Reports said that all the shops and business establishments were closed while the public transport was off the roads.
The Internet service has been snapped since last night in parts of entire Kupwara districts and parts of Sopore tehsil.
All educational institutions remains closed in the district today.
