In a significant development in the alleged Kerala sex scandal, one among the 4 accused priests has surrendered before the police.
Fr Job Mathew (40), the second accused in the case surrendered Thursday morning at Kollam Crime Branch DySP’s office.
The priest has been produced before Thiruvalla Magistrate court on Thursday. According to the statement given by the victim, she had confessed to the priest about the sexual abuse she faced when she was a teenager.
Fr Job allegedly used the confession against her by blackmailing the victim and then sexually abused her. He also forced the victim into having a sexual relationship with other priests by showing video footages of the abuse.
The Kerala High Court on Wednesday had dismissed the anticipatory bail plea submitted by three priests involved in the case.
According the investigation team, the remaining three priests are still on the run.
The police team have intensified the search for Fr Abraham Vargheese and Fr Johnson Mathew, who hails from Kerala, and Fr Jaise K George who is in Delhi.
