Details have emerged of how Marvel comic fans could still see Stan Lee’s final cameos, which have not been publicly released yet.
Fans around the world are mourning the loss of Stan ‘The Man’ Lee, the legendary writer, editor and publisher of Marvel Comics, who died aged 95.
Lee, who once “used to be embarrased because I was just a comic book writer while other people were building bridges or going on to medical careers,” is the man behind many superhero creations that endeared him to comic book fans everywhere.
The illustrator, who started in the business in 1939, created or co-created Black Panther, Spider-Man, X-Men, The Mighty Thor, Iron Man, The Fantastic Four, The Incredible Hulk, Daredevil, Ant-Man and other characters.
According to the Hollywood Reporter Lee died early on Monday morning (local time).
He was declared dead at Cedars-Sinai Medical Center in Los Angeles, according to Kirk Schenck, a lawyer for Lee’s daughter, J.C. Lee.
“He felt an obligation to his fans to keep creating,” his daughter JC Lee said in a statement to Reuters.
Lee revolutionised the comic book and helped make billions for Hollywood by introducing human frailties in superheroes.
“With a heavy heart, we share our deepest condolences with his daughter and brother,” said Marvel Comics and its owner the Walt Disney Company in a statement.
“We honour and remember the creator, voice and champion of Marvel … Every time you open a Marvel comic, Stan will be there.”
“No one has had more of an impact on my career and everything we do at Marvel Studios than Stan Lee. Stan leaves an extraordinary legacy that will outlive us all,” Marvel Studios president Kevin Feige said.
Marvel rival DC Comics paid respects, writing on its Twitter account: “He changed the way we look at heroes, and modern comics will always bear his indelible mark. His infectious enthusiasm reminded us why we all fell in love with these stories in the first place.”
But we may get at least one more cameo in the Marvel Cinematic Universe from Lee.
Marvel Studios had been shooting his cameos in groups, Screenrant.com reports.
They flew Lee in to film several of his scenes in one take.
The last set of cameos were reportedly filmed up to Avengers 4, which Lee’s agent and director Joe Russo have confirmed.
Fans can expect Stan Lee cameos in Captain Marvel and Avengers 4.
But it is unclear if Lee shot a cameo for Spider-Man: Far From Home, which has not been reported.
It is also unclear if Fox filmed any Lee cameos for Dark Phoenix or New Mutants, their upcoming films for the X-Men universe. Sony Animation have not confirmed if there was a cameo filmed for Spider-Man: Into The Spider-Verse, which is due out in December.
THE HERO OF COMICS
“Stan Lee was as extraordinary as the characters he created,” said Disney CEO Bob Iger.
“A superhero in his own right to Marvel fans around the world, Stan had the power to inspire, to entertain, and to connect.
“My youth wouldn’t have been the same without him. So grateful to have met the guy, and told him how thankful I was for his work,” tweeted Australian filmmaker James Wan.
Edgar Wright, the British director of Shaun of the Dead and Baby Driver used Lee’s catchphrase in his eulogy: “Thanks for inspiring so many of us to pick up a pen or pencil and put your dreams onto paper.”
Marvel film stars also were quick to pay tribute to their hero.
Hugh Jackman, known for his starring role as Wolverine in X-Men movies tweeted “We’ve lost a creative genuis.
“Stan Lee was a pioneering force in the superhero universe. I’m proud to have been a small part of his legacy and … to have helped bring one of his characters to life,” he wrote.
Captain America Chris Evans said Lee was one of a kind.
Black Panther and Avengers: Infinity War actor Winston Duke tweeted: “THANK YOU, @TheRealStanLee. You gave us characters that continue to stand the test of time and evolve with our consciousness. You taught us that there are no limits to our future as long as we have access to our imagination. Rest in power! #EXCELSIOR #StanLee #rip”.
Iron Man Robert Downey Jnr said “I owe it all to you, rest in peace Stan.”
“Damn… RIP Stan. Thanks for everything,” said Deadpool actor Ryan Reynolds.
Tech tycoon Elon Musk also paid tribute to the king of comics.
Actor Seth Rogen thanked Lee for “making people who feel different realise they are special.”
Star Trek actor George Takei said lee’s stories will live on forever.
Lee, who was said to be worth $A96 million, also sued an ex-business manager and filed a restraining order against a man who had been looking after his affairs.
Then, in June 2018, it was revealed that the Los Angeles Police Department had been investigating reports of elder abuse against him. AGENCIES
