Dy CM reviews functioning of JK Minerals

SRINAGAR, JUNE 14: Deputy Chief Minister, Kavinder Gupta today convened a meeting of J&K Minerals Limited to review its functioning besides working out plans for streamlining of the corporation.

The Meeting was attended by MD, JK Mineral Vikram Gupta, Irfan Mir Company Secretary and other concerned officers of JK Minerals Limited.

During the meeting, the Deputy Chief Minister, who is holding the charge of Industries & Commerce department had a detailed review of present status, gypsum mine Assar and Parlanka, sapphire mine Padder, of coal mines Kalakote, magnesite mine, lime stone quarry etc.

He also took stock of impediments in successful exploitation of this natural wealth of the State.

MD, JK Mineral apprised the Deputy Chief Minister about the projects in hand with the corporation. It was informed that at present there are 4 projects which are functional including Gypsum mine Assar in Doda and Parlanka in Ramban, Coal mines at Kalakote in Rajouri and Sapphire mine at Padder in Kishtwar.

He further said that Lime Stone Quarry at Khrew in Srinagar and Magnesite project Panthal in Udhampur district are non-functional presently. MD JK Minerals also apprised the Deputy Chief Minister about the financial position of the corporation besides status of these projects with regard to extraction of minerals along with revenue generated from these projects.

Kavinder Gupta stressed on the need of running these projects on commercial lines. He also asked for ensuring quality of products that is being extracted from these mines to meet the market requirements.

“There is a need to explore all possibilities to harness the mineral resources of the state to boost the economy and to make mining operations profitable through enhanced production and sale,” Kavinder said.

MD, JK Mineral, also apprised the Deputy Chief Minister of various issues related to streamlining of the Corporation.
