Director General IMD meets Governor

SRINAGAR, JUNE 14: Dr. K.J. Ramesh, Director General, Indian Meteorological Department, met Governor N.N. Vohra at the Raj Bhavan today.

Dr. Ramesh briefed Governor about: (i) the obtaining weather forecasting system in the State; (ii) the arrangements being made for issuing timely weather advisories to the pilgrims of Shri Amarnathji Yatra 2018; (iii) the functioning of the Yatra Web Page which has been specially designed by the India Meteorological Department andlinked with the www.shriamarnathjishrine.com. DG, IMD, also informed Governor about his Department’s plans to install 4 X Band Radars in J&K, at identified locations.

Governor highlighted the crucial importance of timely and advance weather forecasts for managing the movement of Yatris; which is highly dependent on the weather conditions. Till the proposed new Radars are set up in the Valley, Governor urged Dr. Ramesh to consider issuing special weather advisory bulletins and satellite images which show weather forecasts along both the Yatra routes. For the benefit of the Shrine Board and the other agencies managing the Yatra such bulletins would need to be updated every half hour.
