The traffic on the Pathankot-Mandi National Highway was disrupted when a bridge near Arla village here was damaged following heavy rain on Friday.
Sources said because of the choking of drains along the highway, floodwater entered the bridge and caused heavy damage to its retaining wall.
Palampur DSP Vikas Dhiman said the police had a tough time in restoring the traffic as both Public Works Department (PWD) and National Highway Authority of India (NHAI) officials were denying their responsibilities. NHAI officials claimed that the highway was not under their control, while the PWD officials said the state government had already transferred the maintainance highway to the NHAI six months ago.
