Five people were killed and 24 injured in a landslide at Sihar Baba, a revered place in Reasi district, on Sunday when a loose rock fell down on the devotees who were taking bath at a waterfall.
According to police officials, the incident occurred at 3.30 pm when dozens of people were taking a bath at the waterfall.
“Five people have been killed and 24 others have got serious injuries. All the injured have been shifted to Jammu after they were given first aid at district hospital,” said Tahir Bhat, Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP), Reasi.
“The condition of three injured is critical. The area has been sealed and no pilgrim or tourist is being allowed to visit the place,” he added.
Sihar Baba is a revered place with a waterfall on the bank of Chenab river. It also has a temple of Lord Shiva. Hundreds of pilgrims bound for Vaishno Devi, besides locals, visit the place.
Being Sunday the number of people at the place was more than the usual.
