The Congress has slammed Modi on Sunday, for his remark that Congress was a party for Muslim men only saying that it highlighted his “sick mentality”.

Modi, in one of his speeches in Azamgarh on Saturday had ridiculed Congress over its stand on triple talaq, asking if it was a party for Muslims only and that too of men alone.

“The prime minister has continuously hurt the dignity of his office. We strictly oppose what he said yesterday. It shows his sick mentality and twisted mindset,” senior Congress spokesperson Anand Sharma said.

“His sick mindset is an issue of national concern. The prime minister gives out statements which are wrong as per history and facts, Sharma added.

The Congress leader further announced that Modi had “less knowledge of history and writes his own history”.

The Congress, according to Anand Sharma, was a party “for all Indians and respects the diversity the country has to offer”.

On the issue of tripple talaq he said that there were some rules and regulations that need to be followed in Parliament, and ironically “This government has tried time and again to bypass Parliament. They want to get bills approved without the scrutiny of Parliament”.

Sharma further tagged the prime minister as a “peddler of untruths” and to hide the failures of the government “the prime minister is resorting to untruths, half truth and lies”.

“The Congress does not need any certificate from Narendra Modi or the BJP about its credentials, ideologies or credibility and commitment to the country. It is very well documented,” proclaimed.

Anand Sharma representing the stance of Congress also alleged that the Modi government provided false data about the upliftment of people to above the poverty line category.

Sharma said that the claims made by govt. in this regard are just “laughable” and it was a matter of fact thrown by many surveys that after demonetisation and the launch of the GST, crores of people have been dropped below the poverty line.
