CEC Kargil raises issues of people interest, demands completion of Zojila Tunnel project

Jammu, Nov 16: Chief Executive Councillor, LAHDC Kargil Feroz Ahmed Khan on Friday raised issues of people concern and also demanded that the Zojila Tunnel project should be completed at the earliest.

“There are so many issues concerning to the people of Kargil but the utmost is construction of Zojila Tunnel,” Mr Khan told reporters here on Friday.

He said that they came to know that the company constructing the Zojila Tunnel has turned bankrupt following which the government is planning to cancel the project and may go for re-biding.

“We want to appeal to the Governor that there should not be re-biding of the tender for the said project because it will delay it further,” he added and said that an alternate should be found so that the 70 years old pendind demand of providing all weather road connectivity through this tunnel can be accomplished.

He said a delegation led by him also met the Governor here on Thursday evening.

“Another issue was air connectivity to Kargil and we have assured that under scheme ‘Udaan’, it may begin this December,” said the CEC.

He however, also demanded full fledged university for Ladakh asserting that every year many students from both the regions go to different parts of the country to pursue higher studies.

“The students they have to go outside Kargil and Ladakh for higher studies so in view of that university is must for this region,” he asserted.

The CEC also sought Division status for Ladakh region.

“We are still be considered as part of Kashmir region due to which, many of our grievances and concerns remain unresolved,” he said.

Mr Khan said that the Governor Satya Pal Malik have assured that the issues raised will be considered on priority.
