Normal life in Kashmir remained paralysed on Sunday due to a shutdown called by the Joint Resistance leadership (JRL)—an amalgam of pro-freedom leaders—as a mark of protest against the killing of at least seven civilians in south Kashmir’s Pulwama.
On Saturday three militants were killed in an encounter at Sirnoo village and after the gunfight ended seven civilians were killed when forces fired at protesters near encounter site in the area.
The gunbattle sparked protests, with hundreds of people swarming the gunfight site to help the militants escape.
Also, the train service remained suspended for the second successive day today for ‘security reasons’ in Kashmir valley.
A complete shutdown is being observed in Chenab Valley’s Banihal and Khari areas of Ramban district over the Pulwama civilian killings.
Reports said all the shops and other business establishments were closed in both the townships.
They said the local traffic also remained affected due to the shutdown in the areas.
The JRL had on Saturday called for a three-day shutdown and a protest march to the Badamibagh army Cantonment in Srinagar on Monday.
