Traffic temporarily suspended on Srinagar-Leh highway after fresh snowfall

High altitude areas of central Kashmir’s Ganderbal district, including the famous health resort of Sonamarg and Naranaag health resort, received fresh snowfall, leading to the closure of 434-km long Srinagar-Leh highway on Wednesday.

Reports said the higher reaches, including Sonamarg, Nilghart, Baltal and Zojila pass on Srinagar -Leh highway received fresh snowfall early Wednesday morning.

They said that Drass and Minamarg also received fresh snowfall.

An official said that traffic on 434-km Srinagar-Leh highway was temporarily suspended from both sides as precautionary measure in view of snowfall in Sonamarg and Zojila areas.

He said about 4 inches of snow had accumulated on the highway at Zojilla Pass. “The highway will be re-opened if there is no more snowfall,” he said.
