The commission further clarifies that the HEIs would be given opportunities to make up the deficiencies leading up to recognition. As per the circular released, UGC further states that the ‘process of recognition of Distance Education programmes of universities submitted applications for recognition for the year 2018-19 and onwards is still on, and so far no open course of applicant universities has been derecognised’. The letter further lists out the multi-step process of recognition and in simple terms explain that there is no reason to fear.

As per the official notification, the list released on August 9 is only of the courses that so far were found compliant with the UGC norms for recognition. Also, the complete list of programme wise recognition status and programme wise deficiency(s) to Higher Educational Institutions (HEIs) would be issued by August 16, 2018.

Candidates to please note that following the release of the deficiencies, UGC would provide a period of 30 days to the universities to make representations. The decision would be communicated after the representations are duly received and assessed. In case the courses are still de-recognized, the universities then have a provision to appeal as per the provisions of UGC(ODL) Regulations, 2017.
