Woman tutor granted bail

A 34-year-old woman tutor, accused of sexually assaulting a 15-year-old male student, has been granted bail by a local court. Identified as Raj Kamal, the accused was a science teacher at Government High School in Ram Darbar Colony and was taking tuitions as well. She was arrested on May 24 after the boy disclosed the crime to a counsellor of Childline, an NGO. She was granted bail on submitting bail bonds of Rs 50,000.
The boy was being sexually assaulted for over two months and acting on a complaint of the child, the police had registered a case under Section 6 (aggravated penetrative sexual assault) of the POCSO Act and arrested Raj Kamal. The victim and the accused lived in the same area and he had been going for tuitions since September 2017. The accused is married and has two daughters. Her husband is also a lecturer in a government school.
The incident came to light when the police received a call that a woman had consumed a full bottle of some liquid. Acting on what seemed like a suicide attempt, the police reached the spot and took Raj Kamal to a hospital. However, it was found that the bottle was filled with cough syrup.
As the cops enquired about the sequence of events, they were informed that Raj Kamal had locked the victim in her house and was refusing to let him go. The parents, with the help of neighbours, got hold of their son, Before they could reach home, Raj Kamal entered their house and emptied the bottle that was lying in their washroom.
