Train service resumes in south Kashmir, normal on Srinagar-Baramulla track

Srinagar, Dec 19: Train service has resumed on Badgam-Srinagar to Banihal in Jammu region via south Kashmir after remaining suspended for four days due to security reasons following death of seven civilians in clashes with security forces on Saturday in Pulwama.

Train service, which resumed on Tuesday after remaining suspended for three days in north Kashmir, was functioning normally.

All trains will run in the Kashmir valley today on all routes, a railway official told media.

He said train will run normally on Badgam-Srinagar-Anantnag-Qazigund in south Kashmir to Banihal in Jammu region.

‘We act on the advice of local administration and police who take decision keeping in view the security situation in the valley,” he said, adding that a fresh advisory was received last night to resume train service in south Kashmir from Wednesday.

He said trains will chug as per schedule on Srinagar-Badgam and Baramulla track.

Train service has become very popular in Kashmir valley as it is being considered economical, fast and safe against other modes of transport service available.
