7 prestigious PMDP Sports projects to be completed by March 2019: Secretary YSS

JAMMU, DECEMBER 9: Secretary Youth Services & Sports (YSS) and Information, Sarmad Hafeez today took a detailed review of mega Sports projects being executed in the state under Prime Ministers Development Programme (PMDP) here at a meeting of concerned officers.

The Secretary took stock of the ambitious sports projects including establishment of 22 Indoor Sports Stadiums costing Rs. 4 crore each, upgradation of Bakshi stadium Srinagar (Rs 44 crore) and MA stadium, Jammu (Rs. 40 crore), renovation of sports stadium in Rajouri and Poonch at an estimated cost of Rs. 2 crore each and Udhampur at Rs 3.68 crore, Water Sports Centers in Srinagar and Ranjit Sagar Dam involving Rs. 2 crore each, lighting project at Srinagar at Rs. 2.8 crore.

It was informed in the meeting that about 7 sports projects being executed by State Sports Council will be ready by March 2019, while the tendering process for 3 other projects has been done. The work on MA stadium, being executed by NPCC, is also expected to be completed by March 2019 in view of satisfactory progress on the project. Besides, it was also informed that out of 22 Indoor sports halls, 12 are being executed by State Sports Council and 10 by JKPCC.

Regarding up-gradation work on Bakshi Stadium at Srinagar, the Secretary asked NPCC to accelerate the pace of progress on the project and work in double shifts to ensure its timely completion.

The Secretary, while taking stock of projects being executed by JKPCC, emphasized the need for further expediting the work progress so that these vital sports projects are completed within the prescribed time limit.

It was informed in the meeting that the detailed project report for water sports centre at Ranjit Sagar Dam Kathua has been submitted by the State Sports Council to the State government.

Appreciating the progress on all the prestigious sports projects being executed by State Sports Council and other executing agencies, the Secretary said that this reflects the efficiency and dedication of the officers engaged in such vital works which inspires others also to replicate them for optimum outcome. He expressed hope that all concerned would put in hard efforts to ensure speedy execution of their respective works as delay in completion of works mars the objective of launching such development projects.

The meeting was attended by senior officers of Sports Council, Youth Services & Sports and JKPCC.
