Afghan officials on Monday said that at least 100 people, including women and children, have been taken a hostage by Taliban. The people were taken a hostage in an ambush in the country’s north.
The passengers, according to the reports, were from Badakhshan and Takhar provinces and had been travelling to the capital city of Kabul.
The head of the provincial council in Kunduz province Mohammad Yusouf Ayubi said that the extremist group stopped two to three buses near Khan Abad district and kidnapped the passengers.
He believed that the Taliban were looking for government employees and members of the security forces in the buses but abducted everyone.
This came hours after Afghan President Mohammad Ashraf Ghani declared a conditional ceasefire with Taliban ahead of Eid al-Adha celebrations in the country.
Ghani declared the truce “until the prophet’s birthday provided that the Taliban reciprocate”. He further added that the decision was taken after taking guidance from different segments of the Afghan society.
