Three militants were killed in a gunfight with the government forces in Laroo village of south Kashmir’s Kulgam district on Sunday, police said.

“Three militants killed. (Their) identity being ascertained,” police said on Twitter.

Earlier, an official said that a gunfight broke out after the forces launched a cordon and search operation (CASO) in Laroo village, barely six km from main town, after receiving information about the presence of militants in the area.

“As the cordon was tightened, the militants fired at the forces, triggering a gunfight in which two soldiers were wounded,” he said, adding that the injured were shifted to a hospital.

Internet and phone services have been suspended in the district.
