REASI, SEPTEMBER 22: The district administration Reasi has decided to start Measles-Rubella vaccination from Sep 24, 2018.
A meeting of the District Task Force for Measles Rubella Vaccination campaign decided here today. The meeting was chaired by District Development Commissioner, Prasanna Ramaswamy G.
The campaign scheduled to start from September 24, targets to cover over 1 lakh children in the age group of 9 month to 15 year .
The DDC sought active participation of officials as well as prominent citizens and religious leaders of the district to make the campaign successful. He also warned against unscrupulous elements who could spread misinformation against the vaccine.
It is worth noting that Measles and Rubella are highly contagious viral diseases. Measles can easily spread by coughing and sneezing. Infection with measles is followed by high fever, rash, cough, running nose and red watery eyes. On the other hand, Rubella is a mild viral infection that is followed by rash and low fever. It can also cause joint pain. Sadly, no specific treatment is available for measles and rubella but these can be prevented by vaccination.
Those present at the meeting were Additional District Development Commissioner, Ramesh Chander; Chief Medical Officer, Dr Parminder Singh; District Health Officer, Dr Rajinder Kumar, various CHOs, BMOs among others.
