Eight labourers escaped with minor injuries when a truck rammed into shuttering of a lintel they were constructing on the Kharar flyover near Gharuan village here in the wee hours of Wednesday. The collision caused the lintel to collapse, injuring the labourers.

Ashok Kumar Bansal, the owner of Map Projects, said the incident took place at 3 am when the labourers were almost done with the construction of the lintel on the flyover near the Gharuan bus stand.
Bansal said a half of the slab was already constructed and the work was under way on the other half. In the meantime, an unidentified truck collided with the shuttering, bringing down the under-construction lintel. He said taking advantage of the darkness, the truck driver sped away.

Eight workers sustained injuries in the incident. Bansal said those present at the spot took them to the Civil Hospital, Kharar.

Dr CP Singh of the Kharar hospital said Surinder Singh, Mukesh, Ram Kishan Singh, Sanjeev Singh, Prem Singh, Shivam, Ram Krishna and Ajay were brought to the hospital and they were discharged after providing them first-aid.

The Gharuan police have registered a case under Sections 279, 337 and 427 of the IPC against the truck driver and started an investigation.

Map Projects has been given a subcontract by Ashoka Buildcon Limited, which is constructing the six-line national highway from Kharar to Ludhiana.
