Gangster’s accomplice nabbed with firearms

Sleuths of Special Operation Cell of the Punjab Police arrested a 20-year-old youth, said to be an accomplice of Punjab gangster Bhupinder Singh, alias Sonu Kangla, with a revolver and five live cartridges here.

The accused, Rakshit Saini of Amritsar, worked as a courier of Kangla, who has reportedly been running illegal activities from the Muktsar jail, the police said. Saini was going to deliver some firearms to someone at Chandigarh when he was nabbed at a naka laid near Dara Studio at Phase 6 here.

During his preliminary interrogation, the accused confessed that following instructions, he got the weapon and cartridges from a person at the Tarn Taran bus stand and was asked to deliver them in Chandigarh.

Saini, who is a matriculate, has been booked under the Arms Act at the police station of the Special Operation Cell here.

He was produced in a local court today, which sent him to judicial custody.(Agencies)
