Ludhiana, Sep 24 : Shiromani Akali Dal president Sukhbir Singh Badal Monday took a swipe at Chief Minister Amarinder Singh, saying the party will “wake the CM up from his slumber” by holding a rally in Patiala on October 7 in order to “force” him to honour his polls promises.
The rally would be a turning point in the political scenario of Punjab, he said at a rally in Chhapar village, 40 km from here.
“You will witness people asking the chief minister why he lied on the holy Gutka Sahib? Why did he he make false promises like complete Rs 90,000 crore farm loan waiver, jobs for all, Rs 2,500 per month unemployment allowance, smart phones to youth… We will hold him accountable for all this, and along with people of Punjab will force him to fulfill these promises”, Badal said.
On recent Zila Parishad and Panchayat samiti elections, Sukhbir said as far as SAD was concerned, all party candidates were winners.
“The Congress vitiated the election by resorting to hooliganism in league with the state police and hired goons. The State Election Commission (SEC) also became party to this and failed in its duty to ensure free and fair polls,” he alleged.
Claiming that there was “no government” in Punjab, the SAD president said, “Amarinder Singh is permanently out of action.”
He said there was no one to listen to the plight of the farmer who was facing massive damage caused both to cotton and paddy crops due to heavy rains.
At thew rally, former minister Bikram Singh Majithia asked the Congress government to reduce prices of petrol and diesel in order to give relief to people.
Punjab is imposing highest VAT on petroleum products and this needed to be rationalised immediately to give relief to common people, he said. PTI
