Jhajjar, December 24: Eight people, including seven women, were killed and 10 others injured in a pile-up involving around 20 vehicles at the Badli bypass on the Rohtak-Rewari highway here on Monday due to low visibility.
All the deceased belonged to Kirdodh village.
The injured have been admitted to the civil hospital here, where two of them have been referred to the PGI Rohtak.
On getting information about the mishap, Agriculture and Panchayats Minister Om Prakash Dhankar reached the hospital. Expressing grief over the incident, he announced a relief of Rs 2 lakh each to the families of the deceased and Rs 1 lakh each to the injured.
The deceased have been identified as Satpal (48), Santosh (45), Kanta Devi (34), Prem Lata (50), Laxmi (63), Ram Kali (35), Sheela Devi (61) and Khazani. The condition of injured, Pushpa (30) and Mange Ram (50) of Kirdodh village remains critical at the PGI, Rohtak.
The mishap took place around 10 am these people were going to Najafgarh (Delhi) from Kirdodh village in a cruiser jeep to condole the death of a relative. The jeep first collided with a pick-up, then a truck hit it from behind. The collision was so strong that the jeep was completely damaged.
Thereafter, several other vehicles collided with one another.
