Shopian clashes: Six youth hit by pellets, one with firearm injury referred to Srinagar

At least seven youth were injured in clashes near the site of a gunfight in Kapran area of south Kashmir’s Shopian district on Sunday.

Reports said that youth took to streets in Batagund village as soon as the news of gunfight spread in the area.

They said that the forces used live ammunition, pellets and tear gas to break up the protests, leaving at least seven youth wounded.

A source said that a youth, identified as Faizan Ahmad, was hit by a bullet during the clashes. He was rushed to District Hospital Kulgam where from he was rushed to SMHS hospital in Srinagar for specialised treatment.

Six other youth hit by pellets were taken to Primary Health Centre Vehil for treatment.

Six militants and an army soldier were killed in the gunfight which broke out at 1:30 am following a search operation launched by the forces.
