A foreign militant of Jaish-e-Mohammed was killed and another local militant was arrested alive during an encounter at Bathen forests in Khrew area of Pampore in south Kashmir’s Pulwama district today evening, SP Awantipora Mohammad Zahid told.
The arrested militant has been identified as Suhail Nisar of Khrew Pampore.
He was active since July this year.
On a credible input about the presence of militants, a swift search operation was launched jointly by Police and government forces at Bathen area of Khrew in Pampore.
As the searches were going on, the search party was fired upon by the militants , the SP said.
The fire was retaliated leading to a brief exchange of gunfire.
Consequently one militant was killed in the exchange of fire.
Arms & ammunition including one AK 47 Rifle and Magazines and incriminating material were recovered from the killed militant.
It is learnt that the killed militant is a Pakistani code named as Waseem.
He was affiliated with proscribed Militant outfit Jaish-e-Mohammed.
Police has registered a case in this regard and area is being searched.
