As the first batch of pilgrims for the annual Amarnath Yatra left off early on Wednesday, as part of the security arrangements, a new technology has been put in place that is, radio frequency based ID tags have been installed on vehicles. PP Pauly, Commandant, 73 Battalion CRPF said, “This is radio frequency based ID tags, which are installed on the top of vehicles. These tags will be installed on all vehicles of the convoy. Its monitoring will be done through reception centre. Our computers will record the movement of the vehicles. We’ll know whenever they’ll pass by our 4 reception centers on 2 routes. If we don’t receive signal from a vehicle we’ll inform IG Control room and naka points.” On a related note, Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) personnel formed a special motorcycle squad in line with the security arrangements.
