Clashes erupted in Anantnag town of south Kashmir on Monday after the rumous that the Supreme Court was hearing a bunch of petitions challenging Article 35-A in the Supreme Court.
Youth took to streets and resorted to stone pelting at Lal Chowk, forcing shopkeepers to down their shutters.
The forces deployed in the town fired tear gas and resorted to aerial firing to disperse the protesters.
Clashes later spread to the whole town.
A fresh plea against Article 35 A seeking admission will be heard by the top court today. A bunch of petitions challenging the legislation are likely to come up for hearing on August 31.
