A Russian woman, 33, was allegedly raped by two men on Thursday night while she was on her way to Hadimba temple and a case has been registered by the Manali police.
Kullu SP Shalini Agnihotri said the victim had arrived about a week ago in Manali with a study group carrying out local research.
She said the victim was going towards Hadimba temple from Old Manali after having dinner when the alleged accused waylaid her.
The exact location of scene of the crime had not been identified yet, the SP said.
Agnihotri said the victim had no clue about the location or about the accused. She added that there were no CCTV cameras in the route and police was so far clueless in the case.
She said the medical examination of the victim was carried out today and various other evidences and DNA samples had been collected. The SP added that the concerned Embassy had been informed.
This is not the first case of heinous crime with a tourist in Manali. Earlier this year, a Japanese girl was raped in Manali on May 30 and police was able to solve the case within two days and the alleged accused was arrested.
The SP said that police helpline numbers were available on all taxis and tourist centres for any kind of emergency and effective measures would be taken to ensure safety of the tourists.
