Thieves strike at Verka booths in city, this time in Sector 23

Chandigarh, December 26: Thieves continue to strike at Verka booths in the city. Three thefts have been reported from Verka booths in Sector 23. The miscreants also made unsuccessful theft attempts at two other Verka booths in Sector 23.

In one of the incidents, Verka booth owner Shiv Kumar reported that thieves entered the booth by breaking the locks, including an interlock. “The thieves stole Rs 1,000 and some eatables from the shop,” he said.

Kumar said the thieves had also tried to commit a theft at his booth six days ago. However, they could not break the locks. “This time, they came fully prepared to break the locks and were successful,” he said.

The police were informed about the incident, who have initiated an investigation into the matter. Thefts were also reported from two other Verka booths in Sector 23.

Sources said another Verka booth owner Sonu Goyal reported that he was informed about the theft by the driver of the delivery man around 5 am. Sonu reached the booth and found Rs 800 stolen from the cash counter and Rs 1,000 and silver coins stolen from the place of worship inside the booth. A theft was also reported from yet another Verka booth in Sector 23. Last week, a theft was reported from a Verka booth in Sector 22. The complainant, Guddi Tiwari, had reported that she reached the booth around 5.30 am and found the locks broken. Eatables and cash lying in the booth were stolen.

Similarly, a theft at a Vita booth in Sector 48 was reported on December 10. Four unknown persons stole eatables and 4-kg ghee after breaking the locks of the booth. Thieves have been striking at Verka booths in the city for the past many years. Several incidents of theft at Verka booths are reported every year. Earlier, in July, thefts were reported from Verka booths in Sector 8 and Mauli Jagran.

Theft bid at 2 other booths

Sources said the thieves also tried to commit thefts at two other Verka booths in Sector 23. However, they could not break the locks.
