White scooter-borne snatcher finally held

A 26-year-old drug addict, who works as a security guard, has turned-out to be white scooter-borne snatcher. The Chandigarh Police nabbed the miscreant and claimed to have cracked four cases of snatching and one of vehicle theft.

A team of the Sector 39 police station, led by Inspector Rajdeep Singh, nabbed the snatcher, identified as Kavi Visht (26), at a naka in Sector 37 on Sunday night. The accused was arrested while riding the same white scooter, which was used in the snatching incidents reported from the city recently.

The latest snatching by the accused was committed in Sector 38. The accused had snatched a purse containing Rs 10,000, a mobile phone and documents from a woman, Monica Singh, on August 25. Monica did not call the Police Control Room and straightaway rushed to the police station. The police swung into action and scrutinised the footage of CCTV cameras in the area and managed to identify the accused.

The mobile phone and the victim’s documents have been recovered by the police from the accused.

A motorcycle stolen from the area falling under the jurisdiction of the Sector 39 police station was also recovered from the accused.

The police also claimed to have solved two snatching cases, one registered at the Sector 17 police station and the other at the Sector 11 police station. The valuables snatched from the victims have also been recovered by the police. The accused was produced in a court on Monday from where the Sector 17 police took him on a production warrant.

Kavi is a graduate and works as a security guard in Sector 46. He hails from Uttarakhand and is the father of a newly born girl child.
