A Burail Jail inmate, who was being taken back to the jail from the PGI, escaped from the police bus at the Sector 40/41 light point on Monday afternoon.
The inmate, Rajwinder Singh, who was lodged at Burail Jail in an NDPS case registered against him at the Sector 3 police station, was taken to the hospital for a check-up.
In the afternoon, while the police were taking him back to Burail Jail in a police bus, the accused escaped after jumping out of the window of the bus at the Sector 40/41 light point. “As soon the bus stopped at the traffic lights, the accused pushed a cop and escaped,” said a police official.
By the time the cops got down from the bus, the accused had already escaped.
The Police Control Room was informed following which PCR teams launched a search in the area.
OP Mishra, IG (Prisons), said an inquiry had been marked into the incident to fix responsibility of cops for negligence.
Sources said a police team also visited the house of the accused in his search.
