Srinagar,Oct 28 : Life returned to normal on Sunday in Kashmir valley after remaining crippled for a day due to a strike called by separatists on Saturday as on this day in 1947 Indian soldiers landed in Srinagar for the first time after J&K’s accession with Union of India.
Meanwhile, business and other activities resumed in south Kashmir after remaining crippled since last Sunday, when three Jaish-e-Mohammad (JeM) militants were killed in an encounter in Kulgam.
Seven civilians were also killed near the encounter site due to a blast, triggering criticism from the local mainstream political parties, separatists and civil society.
A police official said security forces, deployed across the valley on Saturday to prevent protests, were withdrawn.
Shops and business establishments, which remain open on Sundays, are doing normal business and traffic on all routes was plying normally in summer capital, Srinagar, and other major towns and tehsil headquarters in the valley.
All the shops were open in the main business hubs in civil lines, including historic Lal Chowk, Gonikhan, Residency Road, Maulana Azad Road, Mahraj Bazar, Batamaloo, Iqbal Park, Dalgate, Regal Chowk and Budshah Chowk.
The situation was no different in the uptown, where shops and business establishments reopened after day-long strike on Saturday.
The historic Jamia Masjid in the downtown Srinagar reopened after remaining closed for two days as a precautionary measure to prevent any protests following separatist call for demonstration after Friday prayers and strike on Saturday.
Life also returned to normal after remaining closed for about a week in Anantnag, Shopian, Kulgam and Pulwama in south Kashmir, where business and other activities resumed on Sunday morning.
Markets were abuzz with shoppers in south Kashmir, where shopkeepers were doing brisk business. Traffic was also plying normally in all the roads in south Kashmir.
Reports of normalcy were also received from other parts of the Valley, including Baramulla, Sopore, Bandipora and Pattan in north Kashmir
