A gunfight broke out between government forces and militants in Kuthpora village of Chattergam in central Kashmir’s Budgam district on Wednesday.

Reports said a joint team of the army, SOG of Jammu and Kashmir police and paramilitary forces launched a cordon and search operation in the village following inputs about the presence of militants.

As the house where militants were suspected to be hiding was zeroed in, the militants fired at the forces triggering a gunfight early today.

The exchange of fire was on when last reports came.

Following the routine, the authorities suspended the Internet service in the district as soon as the gunfight broke out.

Further details are awaited.
