Workshop for specially-abled voters held at Samba

SAMBA JUNE 29: The Election department Samba today organized a workshop for Specially-abled eligible voters of the district

Deputy Commissioner S Rajinder Singh Tara called for registering all eligible special persons above 18 years of age to enable them to exercise their right to franchise as they are equally entitled to participate in the election process.

The aim of organizing the workshop was to make the electoral process more inclusive and friendly for the Persons with Disabilities (PwDs).

During the workshop, threadbare discussion was held to prepare a comprehensive strategy to ensure adequate and quality facilitation of PwDs for their wholesome participation in the electoral process including their enrolment and sensitization.

A large number of special persons, Government officials, BLOs andrepresentatives of NGOs took part in the workshop. The participants shared their experiences and suggested measures with regard to inclusion of persons with disabilities in electoral roll and providing them conducive and friendly atmosphere of their participation in the electoral process.

In his address, the ACR said that persons with special needs are equally entitled to be facilitated in casting their vote and take active part in the political process.

He further said that the services of Government departments and NGOs will be taken to strengthen the process of inclusion of PwDs in electoral roll in future as per direction of ECI. As per GOI directions, the necessary facilities for PwDs shall also be provided, ensured at polling stations for the forthcoming elections.
