Police have booked eight men in Haryana’s Mewat district for raping a goat, news reports said Sunday.
The goat, which was pregnant, died after the assault.
Police booked the men under Section 377 of the Indian Penal code, which prohibits “carnal intercourse against the order of nature with man, woman or animal”, and the Animal Cruelty Act.
The reports quoted police as saying the accused are locals, and had criminal records. And that three of them were beaten up by local villagers.
The incident took place in Maroda village, about an hour-and-a-half south of Gurgaon.
The police are still to make any arrests. News reports Sunday quoted police as saying they were recording the statements of eyewitnesses and villagers.
The goat’s owner, Aslup Khan, was quoted as saying his goat went missing Wednesday night. Khan said he panicked since four of his goats had been stolen in the past and that this one was the only one left.
At around 11 pm, Khan said, he heard some noise and went out.
That was when he saw three men sexually assaulting his goat.
Khan is a truck driver.
